Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions, answered. We believe in being completely transparent to ensure your stay is seamless and stress-free.

What are the requirements for booking a 31+ night stay?

We keep it simple. Here's what we need from you:

  • Completed Rental Application & Signed Lease: Standard forms for clarity.
  • Copy of Government-Issued ID: For identity verification.
  • Standard Background & Credit Check: A routine check for a safe community.
  • Refundable Security Deposit: Fully refundable post-checkout.
How much is the security deposit and when do I get it back?

The security deposit is one month's rent and is fully refundable. We process refunds within 14 days of your move-out, minus any documented damages or unpaid charges. Whenever possible, we do a walkthrough together at check-out so there are no surprises.

What is your cancellation policy?

For direct bookings:

  • 60+ days before check-in: full refund of any payments made.
  • 30–60 days before check-in: 50% refund of any payments made.
  • Less than 30 days before check-in: non-refundable.

Your security deposit is always refundable. For reservations made through Airbnb or VRBO, the cancellation terms shown on those platforms at the time of booking apply.

What if my contract or plans change and I need to leave before my lease is up?

We understand — travel-nurse contracts get cut short and work plans change. Reach out as soon as you know. We'll do our best to re-rent your remaining nights; if we're able to, you're only responsible for the actual unrented portion. If we can't, the standard cancellation terms apply to the remainder of your stay. Either way, contact us first — flexibility is one of the reasons you booked direct.

Why should I book direct instead of through Airbnb or VRBO?

Simplicity and savings. Large booking platforms add significant "Guest Service Fees." By booking directly, you get the same beautiful home and personal service while avoiding those platform fees. You're also communicating directly with us, your hosts, from day one.

What is your pet policy?

We happily welcome one pet per stay, subject to approval and a one-time pet fee. Please tell us about your furry friend when you inquire so we can provide all the details!

How fast is the Wi-Fi?

Both places have fast, reliable Wi-Fi — Gerardine has worked remotely from both of them, so we know it actually holds up for video calls and streaming, not just casual browsing.

What utilities are included in my monthly rate?

All utilities are included — electricity, water, gas, and high-speed Wi-Fi. There are no surprise bills at the end of your stay. What you see is what you pay.

What is the check-in and check-out process?

We do an in-person check-in: we personally meet you, give you a quick tour of the building amenities and your unit, and make sure you're settled in before we go. Standard check-in is 3 PM and check-out is 11 AM, and we do our best to accommodate flexible timing when the calendar allows. Our Hillcrest home offers self check-out; our Gaslamp home will soon, and until then we'll arrange a quick check-out together.

Are cleaning fees included?

A one-time cleaning fee applies at the end of your stay, covering professional cleaning after checkout. There are no recurring mid-stay cleaning fees — the home is yours for the duration of your lease.

Which property is best for medical professionals?

Both of our homes are popular with traveling nurses and healthcare professionals — the right fit depends on your assignment and how you like to spend your time off:

  • Hillcrest — The Uptown Retreat: the shortest commute to the central hospital cluster — an ~8-minute walk to Scripps Mercy and close to UCSD Health Hillcrest — in a quiet, walkable neighborhood that's easy to come home to after a shift.
  • Gaslamp — The Downtown Hub: a favorite with nurses who'd rather be downtown — near transit, dining, and the bay — with an easy drive to the major hospitals.

Both include secure parking, a dedicated workspace, in-unit laundry, and a full kitchen. For commute times to specific hospitals, see our travel nurse housing in San Diego guide.

Can I receive mail or packages at the property?

Yes! As a 31+ day resident you're welcome to receive mail and packages at the property address. Both buildings have secure package areas to keep your deliveries safe.

Do you provide documentation for housing-stipend reimbursement?

Yes. For traveling nurses and other professionals on a housing stipend, we provide a signed lease and an itemized monthly invoice — the documentation most agencies and employers require for reimbursement. Just let us know what your agency needs.
